Independent Visits (Regulation 44 and Standard 20):

In line with Regulation 44 of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Standard 3 of the Specialist Residential Schools National Minimum Standards 2022, we can provide an experienced and professional approach to the Independent Visitor's role. Currently we support a number of organisations with these and have over 9 years experience in delivering this service. Settings that have been supported have included Deaf, Autistic Spectrum, EBD, Learning Disabilities and CSE.

Pre-registration Visits:

We offer the opportunity for organisations, Responsible Individuals and Registered Managers to commission this service, enabling a professional and effective approach prior to the registration visit being conducted by the regulator.

Return to Home Interviews:

All interviews will be carried out in line with the local authority’s missing from care protocols alongside guidance, including:

  • Working together to Safeguard Children
  • Children’s Society Runaway Charter
  • Children’s Society Guidance on Return Home Interviews

Each interview should be conducted within 72 hours of the young person returning to their home/care placement. Each interview will be conducted in an environment that is comfortable and safe for the young person and aims to ascertain the following information:

  1. Any harm suffered by the individual is identified and dealt with, including that, not already identified by safe and well checks. This could be from before or during the missing episode.
  2. An understanding of reasons for the young person running away. This will include a focus on push and pull factors.
  3. Ensure that the young person feels safe and provide advice/options to prevent reoccurrence.
  4. Ensure that young person is equipped with information to support their safety should they choose to run away again – this should include helpline numbers or contact information for key individuals.

Management and Staff Mentoring:

Over the years we have developed and enhanced the skills of a number of individuals to become excellent managers. This has been essential in providing experienced and motivated teams to run some of the most challenging homes in the country. Not all people adopt the same way of managing and a diversity of environments can mean certain approaches work better than others. However, as with the young people you look after, everyone is individual and we are able to enhance strengths and address any shortfalls.

The need to understand the relevant regulations and practically apply these to different settings is equally as important for managers and staff within social care settings. We are able to support and assist individuals in the learning and application of this knowledge to effectively run their homes.

Professional Supervisions:

Professional supervision is a process to enable and guide practitioners towards competent and accountable practice. It also provides ongoing professional development and support. Our supervision service will provide:

  • A coaching based approach that will ensure accountability and that policies, procedures, guidelines and standards are both understood and followed.
  • Professional development linking practice to knowledge base. This supports adherence  to ethics and provides opportunities to reflect constructively on current practice.
  • Support to enable affirmation of supervisees in their work place.

Service Development:

Offering you support and advice on the development of both existing or brand new care services. We have had years of experience running and developing specialist care services for a wide range of young people with complex needs and challenging behaviour. Provisions have included those for Deaf, autistic spectrum, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties and have been regulated by Ofsted and CQC. Whether you are starting from scratch or expanding your homes and services we can help you achieve your goals and provide the best possible environments and outcomes for the individuals in your care.

Over the years we have set up numerous children's and adult care homes. With a sound understanding of the Regulations and requirements of establishing a new provision, we are able to help you and/or your organisation begin your journey into residential care sector in the most positive way. In 2010 we had the pleasure of opening a second Deaf Residential Children's Home. This was awarded an Outstanding rating from Ofsted at its first inspection.

Interim Management:

At times within any organisation there can be circumstances where a Children's Home experiences a period of instability. This may be because of a sudden loss of Registered Manager, organisational challenges or difficulties. We can offer an interim service to cover the period of instability, maintain or raise the quality of the provision and ensure that it can be effectively handed over to a newly appointed Registered Manager.
